Gosforth Chess Club Feeling Tickled Pink

On the 5^th of November Gosforth Chess Club ran its first ever charity event and raised £294 for cancer research and support charity Tickled Pink.  The event was inspired by member James McKay who used the challenge as part of his ongoing BTEC Business Studies course. 

On the day 27 players participated, including nine juniors under 15 years. Brian Towers was arbiter and prize winners were  

• OPEN James Ross with nine points from ten rounds 
• U1800 Marco Checchi, celebrating a long awaited and popular return to the club with 6 and  
• U1400 Ten years old Vivian Leigh with 5. 

The club were delighted with the event and the amount raised, with many players and non-players making substantial contributions. More are planned for 2023 as the club looks to promote its ‘more than just a chess club’ ethos within the Gosforth community.

Players Needed for Counties Championship!

Players are invited to play for Northumberland in the 2022-23 Counties Championship.

The county has two teams of 12 players each: Open and Under 2050. (Check your ECF rating here.)

The next fixtures are:

1. Saturday January 28, 1:30pm – Northumberland v Greater Manchester (Open & Under 2050 teams) 

Venue: York Railway Institute, 24 Queen St, York YO24 1AD

2. Sunday 5 March, 1:30pm – Northumberland v Yorkshire (Open & Under 2050 teams) 

Venue: Darlington Dolphin Centre, Horse Market, Darlington DL1 5RP
